March 2006 - Plant of the Month

Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Mops’
(Mops Japanese Falsecypress)

Type: evergreen
Height: 3-6’
Hardiness: Zone 4-9
Light requirements: Full sun or light shade
Bloom Color:  -

An unusual thread leaf Chamaecyparis. Striking bright yellow-gold string-like foliage. Un-trimmed forms a natural 2-3 foot mound (slightly larger with old age). Makes very interesting Bonsai subjects. The trunks thicken at an early age and the bark takes on an alluring texture. Excellent to “brighten” a dull area.
