NEWfor 2006

Baptisia x ‘Carolina Moonlight’

 (Carolina Moonlight False Indigo)

NEWType: perennial
Height: 3-4’
Hardiness: Zone 4-7
Light requirements: Full sun to part shade
Bloom Color: bright yellow

Their erect spikes of pea-like flowers that appear in late spring closely resemble those of lupine, and cover the lusty, shrub-like growth that emerges in spring like fat asparagus shoots. 'Carolina Moonlight', a vigorous hybrid of Baptisia sphaerocarpa x B. alba, offers soft moon-glow yellow blossoms that spring from smoky charcoal buds (what a contrast!) on 18 inch spikes, complimented by beautiful, contrasting blue green foliage. Looking for a low-maintenance perennial with WOW appeal? This new intro comes with native-tough tolerance for hot, muggy summers and cold winters, growing to a height of 3 - 4 feet. Happiest in deep, rich soil, 'Carolina Moonlight' will also flourish in poorer, albeit well drained, conditions.
